The Eastern Cape has been one of the victims of water shortages and high rates of poverty. According to the 2001 census 68% of the Eastern Cape population lived below the poverty line and only 62% had access to water. As a result of this some people have taken it upon themselves to help eradicate poverty:

Jabez Health Centre
Grahamstown is one of the towns in the Eastern Cape that is hit hard by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. And because of the high rate of poverty and unemployment in this area, those affected by the virus find it hard to receive proper health care and a balanced diet. However there are organizations in this area who are determined to help those in need, Jabez Health centre in Extension nine is one of them:
